Meet Your Guide

Howdy! My name is Elizabeth Olivia Kissling. Yes, I am fully aware that my name is a mouthful, so everyone just calls me Libby. I am a boxer, model, stand-up comedian, and outdoors-enthusiast! I am currently enrolled as a senior at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. For those of my readers who are unfamiliar with the vast “country” of Texas, San Marcos is right outside of Austin.

To really understand the purpose of my blog, you have to first understand this simple fact: Texas is massive.

I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, home of the San Antonio Spurs, located in the south-central region of Texas. I’ve had the pleasure of being able to see many different parts on my home state. From Port Aransas to Lubbock, and El Paso to Houston, Texas is home to a number of exceedingly different geographical features. (Spoiler alert: they’re not all dust and cactus!) In Texas there are beaches, canyons, mountains, deserts, forests, swamps, grassy plains, and much more. To read up on more Texas-y facts click here.

Whether you’re Texas-born, newly moved to Texas, or even looking to just visit, the amount of places to go and things to do in the Lone Star State can be overwhelming. A more vexatious phenomenon I have come to experience and hate after living here 21 years, is the excessive amount of people flocking to our best-known natural areas. I have been turned away by park officials countless times at places like Enchanted Rock and Barton Springs because there were simply too many visitors at one time. This is a nightmare especially when you’ve been traveling for hours.

In this blog, my goal is to supply my readers with knowledge about lesser-known natural areas in our state. In each post I will deliver the name of the natural area, a brief history, location as well as how to get there, and an unbiased review of my experience. I will also provide as many photos as I can to capture the beauty of these ‘hidden gems’!

Calling all outdoor enthusiasts: I hope you’ll join me on my adventure!
